Here's a testimony of something we saw happen during a ministry "giving time" in the Ships DTS.
During the school, we give several opportunities during the lectures for students and staff to participate in crazy acts of generosity. We gather the school, praise God together for the all the gifts in our lives (relationships, skills, physical items, etc.), then ask Him how we can bless each other with teaching on how to make this a lifestyle and not just a series of events.
During this time I saw people give away their computers, tablets, and sentimental items to each other, but God spoke to me about giving away my $800 DSLR and a specific person with whom to give it. I love taking photos and still desire to use develop and grow in digital media. This was a dream camera for me, but I was I was more excited to express the generosity of the Father to another person than to hold onto it for myself. It was clear to me the the Holy Spirit was prompting me. This made me excited and nervous. As I retrieved my camera and gave it to a German student from Paraguay, she was shocked and asked me if I was sure. I just smiled and walked away. Nothing apparent or out of the ordinary happened right away. I wasn't let down by that, just joyful that I was obedient to the Holy Spirit.
A few days later I found out that the same girl had promptly left the ministry time to go to her room. She had spent 2 hours crying out to the Lord repenting of her disobedience and thanking Him for showing His heart for her as a loving Father who desires to give her good gifts. Before she had received my camera, God had spoken to her about giving her camera away, but she wrestled with the thought and didn't follow through. The camera I had given her was the same brand but a better model than her current camera. She told me that she asked God to forgive her for not trusting in Him and not walking out in obedience. She ended up giving her camera away to another guy staffing the school that really wanted to learn photography.
I was so blessed to be a part of her growth in trusting God and how He blessed her with something better, even if she didn't quite get it right the first time, her hunger for more of Him caused her to run straight to His arms. I love the lessons that God shares with us and the principles of His kingdom! We don't need to see the results of our generosity, just take the simple joy of being able to obey our loving Father and to give out of the well spring of our hearts without conditions!
