Most of you would be expecting that we are writing this while in Tahiti. But the truth of the matter is, we have had to change our plans once again!
We were prepared to leave for Tahiti– as a matter of fact we were all packed. Due to circumstances involving who could stay with my mom here in Seattle, we prayerfully decided that we needed to be the ones to stay with her leading up to her surgery and a little beyond. My mom is unable to care for herself, though she is very close, she still needs help with getting around in her wheelchair. My father still has to fly back and forth between Seattle and Sitka. Unfortunately his business is suffering for it and he will be flying out tomorrow for an extended leave to ensure that he can maintain his business. We know what you’re thinking, what does this mean for our ministry in Tahiti? It’s been a hard and challenging process for us, and we have a lot more to say than can fit in this update, but we have decided with our team in Tahiti that we will be canceling the DTS in July and looking at another date which is TBC. There are other more pertinent reasons why we decided to cancel the school than our issues here in Seattle. Anyway, things are going to be getting tricky for us and will take a lot of wisdom in navigating. We believed that we weren’t supposed to make a choice between continuing in Tahiti or staying here helping my parents. We felt that God wanted us to hold onto our apartment in Tahiti and fly back to renew our visa before it expires in Sept. On top of that, Tessa and Mateo will need to leave the U.S. soon since they will be coming up to the limit of their stay as Canadians, but we can probably solve that with a quick visit to Canada. After my mom has recovered from her surgery we are going to be returning back to Tahiti. We still Skype with our team and get updates with how everything is going, so we’re not disconnected with Tahiti. Our teammates, the Burr family, are looking after our apartment while we are here. We are looking at making that available for visiting outreach teams as a hospitality accommodation. We wanted to thank you all so much for your encouragement and support and we navigate this year. We also would like to thank you for your prayers for Linda and for Tessa's surgery. FYI Tessa has made a full recovery!
