After we finished our leadership development course in Oregon, we returned back to Kona at the start of November. There were so many amazing leadership principles and practical lifestyle tools that we were eager to incorporate into our family and ministry. It was going to be interesting to see what settled in our lives from the course. There were many unexpected, yet impacting revelations that came from our prayer times, group times, workshop times and various assignments. These were directional and identity shaping words for us for 2018! Most of our expectations for this course had been met and exceeded upon. One thing that we had not anticipated was a misalignment of expectations within our team for Vancouver Island.
It's true that our team grew in understanding each others individual gifts, personality mix, ministry philosophy and leadership styles but the biggest challenge I had was coming to terms with and confronting my own weakness. That was a tendency to shirk away from taking responsibility and leadership. I admit that I didn't know how to address this in a healthy way and it led to some sobering conversations within our team. Though it was hard, it showed differences in our convictions with pioneering and team building that we didn't share. It was very unsettling but at the same time, it was better that we found out before we all moved together to the island. After the course finished we took a lot of time prayerfully seeking answers and how to move forward. Our questions have been, how do we carry this burden for Vancouver Island? What is going to be fruitful and how can we advance God's Kingdom? How can we preserve unity and support each other as we pursue this calling to Canada? In the last couple months, Tessa and I invited input from close friends and trusted leaders. We had some key conversations with leaders in YWAM Canada and with our YWAM Ships Director in Kona and it is with trepidation and excitement that we are announcing two pioneer teams to Vancouver Island. Kevin and Mary Jane will be re-pioneering YWAM Victoria and Tessa and I will be pioneering in a city called Nanaimo! There's much that we're still praying into and details that we need to figure out but we believe that we're making a step in the right direction. One of the most important things that we're exploring is how we can support, strengthen, and celebrate each other's mission of advancing God's Kingdom. There you have it! The reason why we haven't had any new updates with our move to Vancouver Island was so that we can prayerfully come to a conclusion in our direction to lead out in gathering a team and pioneering a new YWAM ministry. We are very hopeful for the future and ready to set our hands on a work that we hope will bless God and bless people. Please check here for our latest updates!
